Pollen people

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE spring, but I was blessed in that un-blessed way to have year round allergies. And thanks to Cardiganland's early spring, everything is coated in a fine layer of spring green pollen. (I guess that's where the crayon name comes from!) Even my car, usually clean looking because it's silver, looks gross. On the bright side I am heavily armed with Claritin and a gas mask so I should be fine.

The silver lining of all this pollen is that it means there is dogwood. I missed out on my favourite tree in the town in bloom--a windy day wiped it out, but this is what it looked like last year--and now that the dogwoods are blooming, I'm not going to miss out! I'll be keeping my eyes peeled. Also, wisteria. Am I right? Well, if you live in the great white north I'm wrong, but Cardiganland loves its things that bloom, even with the pollen it brings.

One more silver lining: my skirt is always in bloom and never discards pollen! Yay.

  1. What a lovely spring outfit! I totally understand what you're talking about with the green pollen being EVERYWHERE! It's terrible, especially when you can see it floating in the air and settling on absolutely everything. Well, I hope your allergies aren't too bad this spring!

  2. Stinkin adorable. This is totally cute. I can't believe you're outside right now! I had to hold my hand over my mouth and my eyes squinted shut trying to run from one place to another.

  3. Thank you both! I'm definitely steeling myself against pollen and so far my allergies have been okay, but I know pollen season is just starting so I have a long road ahead. But hopefully I'll remain stylish while I'm sneezing :)

  4. I agree - great skirt. Totally cute, totally spring.
I know what you mean by not missing the blooming seasons. I used to live in this house with these great crab apple trees in the front yard that would bloom in the spring and shower the front yard with these delicate pink blossoms that would fragrant the air like perfume. It only happened for about 2 days and if I didn't pay attention I would miss it altogether. But when I caught it... It was like magic.

  5. HA ha, yay for floral hypoallergenic clothing :) Love your location today, reminds me that I still have never done a mural shot so I'm gonna have to try that in the future..

  6. Aweeeee you’re so cute! I looooove that barn! So cool! And you’re whole outfit is super cute! I love the outfit from the post below too! If you’re wondering how I found you, it’s because you follow another lovely blogger I follow (my fellow Oregonian Coffee and a Cardigan). If you could follow back I’d appreciate the support I'm pretty new to blogging! And I love followers more than fluffy, warm, banana pancakes!

  7. Thank you all for your compliments!

Elle: There's nothing like watching spring happen, right? It stinks to miss things bloom and grow and expand but fortunately it sounds like you caught those crab apple trees a time or two :)

Monks: do it. Now. It's pretty much a style blogger rule of conduct that I just made up.

Rosy, thank you so much! You're making me blush :) Coffee and Cardigan is a great blog, and from the looks of it yours is too!

  8. It has been raining here non-stop for the past few weeks, so I am envious of your sunshine. And I live in California. What gives universe?!

I sympathize with you on the allergy front - we had some freak sunshine at the end of February that let loose the pollen of doom and I wanted to die. My allergies have only developed in the last few years, so I tend to be a little dramatic. I guess that is the only good thing about the rain, the pollen isn't stuck to everything.

Your outfit is really cute, you look great in coral!

This comment is already long enough... but I really love all of your different backgrounds.

  9. Ugh Nicole I think I got your rain. It's been pouring here all day! On the bright side I think it's going to rinse most of the pollen out of the trees, which should make my nose a little less angry.

I honestly don't think I've ever really considered coral as something that would suit me, but I really love the colour of this shirt! I'll have to keep my eyes open for more coral in the future.

I like long comments :) And thank you! I really try not to do the same place twice in a row. I kind of like hunting down new places to take pictures!
