Death by Martha

Pink scarf: JCPenney | Blue scarf: Target | Sweater: Target | Dress as skirt: Target | Tights: Target | Flats: DSW

I have taken more of an interest in cooking in the last six months or so. I'm getting better at it and feel capable of making a LOT more than I used to be able to make. (I am also the primary cooker in my family now!) I read food blogs and Google recipes and my recipe pinboard is the second largest one I have (clothes, of course, still hold first place). And my parents did get me the god of mixers, so my baking can go to an even higher level. (I've always been a good baker.) But since I want to inch forward with my cooking, I checked this out from work. And I have received no short variety of comments about Martha. But to be entirely fair to Martha, looking through the book, it's actually really easy to follow. She explains damn near everything about cooking, along with the basics of baking. So I raise my glass to you, Martha, for enabling me to make my friends even more jealous with my cooking skills.

America, y'all

You may want to listen to this while you look at this post. You can also view the other SIA submissions on Salazar's blog. As for myself, I'm gonna go watch some baseball and eat apple pie and do other things that are about as American as it gets.*

*That's a lie, I'll be doing homework, which is about as un-American as it gets

Let me tell you about this lipstick.

While Sarah and I were in Las Vegas, we encountered many Sephoras. At the one in Caesars Palace, Sarah tried on her first red lipstick, NARS Red Lizard. (It looked great on her.) And because I am nothing if not daring with my lip colours, I tried on NARS Schiap. And then I really liked it, so I tried to buy it, but they were out.

You see where this is going, right?

During the rest of the trip, I pined. I was obsessed. We checked another Sephora in San Francisco, but an employee notified us that Schiap had been sold out in stores for weeks and they had no idea when it would be restocked. (Noooooooo!) So I signed up for an in-stock email. And I got one last week while I was at work! Pep was restored to my step. I drove home, excitedly hopped on the Sephora website, and found my lipstick.

And it was already sold out.

Despondent, I checked eBay. I checked Ulta. I checked Nordstrom. Nary a stick to be found. So I signed up for the email again, and wished and waited for what felt like months but was really only days.

But finally...finally.

I got the email. Right before lunch, too, so I was able to leap onto a computer and order it as soon as I was on break! Five days later, it was in my hands. It smells like cracked pepper and it looks like how Kesha's music sounds. I looooove it. And so do my patrons--I was told today that my lipstick was a) striking, b) dynamic and c) splendid. Indeed.

Oh cold but happy day! Macmillan is going to start offering ebooks to public libraries for circulation! This is probably not that big a deal to most people, but it's huge in the digital book world. The only big publishers left to fall now are Penguin, Simon and Schuster, and Hachette. We're coming for you, publishers.

Ps. The picture below shows how I took the picture above.

Back on the wagon! Seeing these pictures now makes me realise exactly how odd my hair looked today. What is happening on top of my head? There's a significant amount of fluff happening. And yet if you look at the side view, it still looks weirdly stringy. I don't know. There's no taming this beast.

Thirty of thirty

Here's a shot of me, grilling in a silk dress, like the badass that I am. "Grilling in a Silk Dress" would be a great name for this blog if I had more than no interest in cooking. I'm an okay cook, I'm great with the grill, and I enjoy baking greatly. But the mess I make is all pretty basic stuff--sautéd shrimp, baked chicken, grasshopper pie. It sounds interesting and I guess it photographs well, but it's literally all stuff you could Google and find about 400 recipes for immediately. That and food blogging is boring to me. I tried it that one time and that was the end of that. So here's to style blogging and being done with 30x30!

I'm so close, you guys! I can almost taste it. You know what else I can taste? Tic Tacs. The light green ones. There is one in my mouth right now. Amazing. Oh, there goes another. It's like they trip and my mouth breaks their fall.

I'm still here

This face adequately describes how I feel right now about abandoning my blog for a bit.

I promise. I've actually been sticking to 30x30 for the most part, too, but I've been too crazy busy with school to photograph outfits :( I'm really on like 18 or 19 of 30, but I've only taken photos of 14. I'm sticking it out though! I have a big paper due on Thursday (currently written: two of at least six pages, ick) and once that's donewith I'll be able to devote more time to taking outfit photos again. I really miss it, too! I have so much to share--school, my new tattoo (did you notice?) more of 30x30, pictures, life, whatever. But paper first, then life! I hope my professor is reading this and gives me an A for effort alone

Wedding bells

Nine of thirty

I'm sure that for the most part, this concept is ridiculous and people probably think it's only for bartenders, but I have taken to wearing a fake wedding ring for work. For some reason I seem to have garnered an awkward and motley crew of attempted suitors. I have a personal rule of no dating patrons, but for the most part this group of sirs does not know that. Hence the ring. However, the attempt to brush off these gentlemen has failed--even waving my left hand in front of them has been no help. I think if anything it's only worked to offset the normal ones.
