So many buttons

Yes, the trees are blooming. No, this is not normal for February.

My pick for this month's book discussion...I wanted a love story for February. This is close, right?

Click this to see the large version, because I think you need to see it bigger. The depth of field...wow.

Just a few photos from the new camera. Oh, I'm in such love. Such, such love.
I'll be back with an outfit post tomorrow :)

The return of the jedi

Thaaaaat's right. What We Wore is BACK! K. and I ran across the street on our break for some fun quality time in front of the camera. So here we go!

I'm wearing:

Cardigan: Anthro
Dress: Anthro, shortened with safety pins for the day
Tights: Walmart?
Heels: thrifted (!!!!)
Red nails: Zoya Carmen
Green nails: butter London British Racing Green
Yellow nails: butter London Cheeky Chops
Blue nails: China Glaze First Mate
Gray nails: Zoya Dove

I thought maybe it would be a good idea to repaint my nails and do the skittle thing again. I'm not making this a permanent habit but I kind of love the effect.

K. is wearing:

Necklace: This and That
Top: Dots
Bracelets: Dots
Pants: Dots
Flats: Shoe Department
Button: Work

K. wears this necklace nearly daily. She's a big New Orleans Saints fan, which is good because otherwise I'd have to kick her out of my friends circle because she also likes the Washington Redskins. Just kidding, we both know our respective teams suck this year.

By the way, I tweeted a couple days ago that I thrifted a pair of shoes. HERE THEY ARE. $5, people. I got crazy lucky--I've been looking for duo toned shoes (exhibit a: this pin) for a few months now and haven't found anything in my price point that would be available after my shopping diet was over, but for $5 I'm willing to break said diet. I think it was worth it. And they've been worn maybe 3 times at most because the original tread is still on the sole!

This is one of the first pictures we took, and it was really morea practice shot than anything. As soon as I saw it I was like "whoa, K.! I look so much taller than you!" And then she looked up at me and said "well, you are." Touche, K. Touche.

See y'all tomorrow!

It must be the family part that gets me

Top: JCPenney
Cami: Old Navy
Skirt: handmade
Wedges: DSW

Do you guys ever cry at tv commercials? I usually don't (except those happy birthday ACA commercials but who DOESN'T cry at those), but there's a couple every holiday time that really, really kill me. There's this one Publix commercial of a little old lady making this gross looking bread pudding and it takes her all day and her grandkids all love it and they love her and it's so GROSS LOOKING but I tear up anyway.

The other one, also from Publix--jeez Publix lighten up!--is about this kid who can't get home for the holidays because he's basically Doogie Howser and he only gets one day off a year. It cuts between him taking the bus home and his family getting ready for a big holiday meal, and then he opens the door to his apartment and BAM, there's mom and the whole crew with all that food and they're all happy and home is where the heart is, etc. Kills me every time!

What about you? Share so I don't feel like as big a loser for welling up watching commercials. This is why we keep them on mute!

Frustration nation

Cardigan: Target
Top: Anthropologie
Shorts: Target
Tights: We Love Colors
Booties: Enzo Angiolini

Here's the deal. I had yesterday off. Last night was my first entry into competitive curling, so I thought I'd get up early and do my pictures, then go back to bed and not have to deal with it in the middle of the day when it's hot out and I have to think.

Well, that sort of happened. The dew in our front field was more water than soft dew, and my Toms were soaked by the time I got from the yard to the field. I set up the tripod, then switched my shoes, then tried some pictures...

And they looked bad. So I left the field, downtrodden with wet feet, shlepped back inside, took my outfit off and crawled into bed. I looked at the pictures again on my camera, just to be sure...and then they looked better. So I pulled everything back on, went outside, and took more pictures. By the time I was done everything about my outfit made me feel hot and uncomfortable, and I just wanted to peel everything off and sleep. So I did. And then I woke up and noticed that I'm making the same dumb pose in all my pictures, but I don't care. It's over, it's done, and curling yesterday was awesome so all's well that ends well!

The elephant in the room

Necklace: JCPenney
Tank: Target
Skirt: JCPenney
Wedges: Target
Dog: Ellie

Wondering where I've been? Probably not, but I'll tell you anyway. Technically, I've been nowhere different than my daily locations--home, barn, work, grocery shopping, and more very unexciting places. But physically, this week has been extremely hard. Frustrating though it is to admit, I was diagnosed with RA a year and a half ago after a six month dive into constant flares in my hands that feel like a cavity after eating a candy bar. That sharp, searing, suck-in-your-cheeks kind of pain that won't go away until it wants--I get that in the knuckles of my hands. Without warning, I suddenly feel this pain. It doesn't affect my range of motion (thank goodness!) but boy does it hurt.

Fortunately it's mostly under control with medication, but I still do have flare ups. From Tuesday to last night has been a struggle to ignore the pain, and the last thing I felt like doing for the last few days was taking outfit pictures, especially since my outfits consisted of pants + top + flats. Pretty boring. The only thing I wanted to do was burrow my hands in a hole of cool dirt to dull the pain. Of course it is 95 here so that didn't really happen (womp womp) but today has been the first day where I felt more like I could do Whatever and not worry about driving through the pain to get to Whatever. Hopefully this won't happen again--I always hope it won't, and it hadn't since February--but now you know. I'm not perfect, I'm only 99% there :)

I did finish The Art of Fielding while I was out of commission, so if I remember I'll post about that next!

Ballerina, spin me round

Top: Old Navy
Skirt: JCPenney
Flats: Banana Republic

As a child, I wasn't keen on dance of any sort. Or anything involving moving, really, but that's not the point of this post. My best friend when I was tiny was big on ballet, and her mother took her to lessons weekly. The bug never bit me, thankfully, and to this day I only dance if I am drunk or cajoled by college friends at weddings.

But I'm an art lover, and I find inspiration in all forms of art. One of my favourite parts of visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art was coming across a room dedicated to Edgar Degas' sculptures of horses (because I'm a horse fan) and ballet dancers (because while I don't dance, ballet is an incredible art in itself). One of Degas' great sculptures is The Little Dancer Age Fourteen, which I have had the luck to see multiple times in DC, and that, combined with his studies of ballet dancers and my purchase of this decidedly ballerina-y top, gave me inspiration. Do you see it? Perhaps? Maybe it's just me, but either way, I'm dressed and that's considered success in this household.

War wounds

Necklace: wapa on Etsy
Dress as top: Target
Belt: Target
Skirt: JCPenney
Wedges: Target

I've received some battle scars from photography. In my freeish time I enjoy film photography and my worst/weirdest picture related injury was fire ant bites all over my stomach after I laid down to take this photo. Killer, right?

Well, that's still my worst injury though I have to admit that I really look badass with this cut on my leg. I don't know how it happened--I'll have to assume I was scratching my leg and accidentally scratched a scab off--but how cool do I look? I have band aids in my car but nothing to wipe the blood up. It adds a nice accent of warm tones to my outfit. Right?

Meanwhile, I received lots of compliments on my hair today. I got the idea from this pin on Pinterest. I very recently (two days ago) figured out how to tease my hair the right way, so I've been taking advantage of that. Having a soft bristle paddle brush (part of my grandmother's silver set, so thanks grammy!) has helped a lot. Now contemplating doing this. to my hair. Thoughts? It would be so much easier if I had blonde hair, which actually shows colour and style definition a lot better. Luck of the draw, because I do love my burnt sienna hair.

Appropriate questions to ask others

Necklace: Anthro
Cardigan, worn backwards: Target
Belt: Target
Skirt: JCPenney
Wedges: Target

"Did you know your sweater is on backwards?"
Oh! So THAT'S why it was so hard to button it this morning.

"Your belt isn't centered."
Well, it's centered according to two points on my body, just not the ones you're looking at.

"Your hair's kind of messy today, don't you think?"
Well, you know. When you roll straight out of bed into your car, you don't always get the opportunity to preen pre-desk.

"Are you STILL not eating anything coloured?"
Yeah, no, got it, still trying.

What goes up

Necklace: wapa on Etsy
Cardigan: Boden
Jeans: Gap
Socks: Old Navy (way old)
Flats: Target via ebay
Nails: Rescue Beauty Lounge Anne

Happy Earth Day, y'all! Flickr was a big ol' jerkface today and I had a hard time editing my photos, which is why this post is going up soooo late.

If you all haven't noticed (honestly, you should have by now), my hair is a beast. It's something else. Now that I have my hair screws (I know they're called "spin pins" but hair screws sounds so much cooler) I thought I'd take a bit out of this hairstyle. Mine was minus the hairspray, because my hair gets mad if I use that stuff.

Pretty good, right? I like how it looks, even though my buns are WAY bigger than the model's. There's a third one on the right side of my head, you just can't see it! I swear it's there.

Also, my dinner at Panera was free tonight. I love that Panera card. It is #1 in my heart! And I just saw a rerun of Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon singing Friday. Remember when Jimmy Fallon was new and not good? Not anymore, y'all.

Giveaway winner will be announced tomorrow! I hope it's you ;)

I will hold out hope

Scarf: Target
Top: Target (men's)
Skirt: Gap
Wedges: Target

It seems that every time I wear this skirt, I have nothing at all to say! So I'm just going to write random stuff.

I spent five minutes fussing with my scarf and still couldn't make it look the way I wanted.
A tick just crawled across my computer screen. I flushed it. (It's officially spring.)
I bought six boxes of Crystal Light and $48 worth of gasoline. Gas prices are a real downer these days.
Don't forget to enter the giveaway. Tell your friends. Or don't, because I know you want to win. So never mind!

I rode my horse today and he was wonderful. Maybe I should have ridden him to work instead of driving my car.
I have spent weeks looking for my hair screws and can't find them so I bought more. Not on Amazon though, those are way overpriced!
I went to the eye doctor and had my pupils dilated for the first time. Everyone lied to me about being sensitive to light because I waltzed out into the sun with no problems. I got a sexy pair of old people shades for my trouble.

I am tired. See y'all tomorrow!
