Pandora's box

Scarf: J.Crew warehouse | Top: Target | Skirt: eShakti via DIYFATSHION | Wedges: Payless

So I've been on a hunt for a while for someone else--like anyone else my age--who watches Person of Interest. Do any of y'all watch it? It's seriously one of the most underrated shows on television today. But I'm pretty sure that because it airs on CBS, I'm the only one under the age of 45 who watches it. I know a couple of friends' dads who watch it. It had a panel at DragonCon, people! It's good stuff! I need someone to talk to about it, but no one's biting. I've had to resort to the Twitterverse for moral support. At least the 40somethings on Twitter will speculate with me.

War wounds

Necklace: wapa on Etsy
Dress as top: Target
Belt: Target
Skirt: JCPenney
Wedges: Target

I've received some battle scars from photography. In my freeish time I enjoy film photography and my worst/weirdest picture related injury was fire ant bites all over my stomach after I laid down to take this photo. Killer, right?

Well, that's still my worst injury though I have to admit that I really look badass with this cut on my leg. I don't know how it happened--I'll have to assume I was scratching my leg and accidentally scratched a scab off--but how cool do I look? I have band aids in my car but nothing to wipe the blood up. It adds a nice accent of warm tones to my outfit. Right?

Meanwhile, I received lots of compliments on my hair today. I got the idea from this pin on Pinterest. I very recently (two days ago) figured out how to tease my hair the right way, so I've been taking advantage of that. Having a soft bristle paddle brush (part of my grandmother's silver set, so thanks grammy!) has helped a lot. Now contemplating doing this. to my hair. Thoughts? It would be so much easier if I had blonde hair, which actually shows colour and style definition a lot better. Luck of the draw, because I do love my burnt sienna hair.

Twisting my stomach into knots

Necklace: antiques shop
Dress: Target
Wedges: DSW

Hello everyone! I apologize for my unexplained absence; I really should've left a post up saying I'd be gone for the weekend! I was curling and celebrating the second of July with friends in Charlotte, then upon my return I felt like wearing nothing but blue shorts and a tank top so no 30 for 30 posts. (I also forced some GRE study in there.) But I'm back in the swing of things!

I missed you all while I was gone, and I read all my email. Thank goodness for the iPhone, amirite? Yesterday (on the fourth, right before we started grilling) a major, major gale-force-winds-rain-on-you-so-hard-your-momma-feels-it storm came blasting through the farm. Holy cannoli. My poor dog, who is terrified of thunderstorms, was trapped out in the rain, but for once in her life she came when she was called. Crisis sort of averted, but she smelled like a wet dog. Shocker.

How was your Independence Day? If you're Canadian, how was your Canada Day? If you are not American OR Canadian, how were your first through fourths of July? I didn't get to read my blogroll this weekend, so fill me in on what I missed!

Are you a Louis or a Ren

Tank: Target
Skirt: Walmart
Wedges: Target

Simplest outfit ever? Maybe. This skirt has come precariously close to Goodwill on more than one occasion, including today, but either my subconscious or my mother has whispered in my ear that I can make this skirt work.

You all know I like patterned clothing, but I definitely have struggled with this skirt. I've fought with matching it and not matching it, introducing other patterns and colours, and I don't know, nothing ever seems to work. Also, I have to wear it right at my waist but the skirt is pleated, which I think makes me look a little wider than normal.

BUT I AM IN THIS TO WIN THIS, as my best friend A. insists she says (doubt it), so I'm going to keep trying. Don't expect this skirt to be part of my 30 for 30, but do expect to see it after that and into the fall with tights. Anyone miss tights weather right now? Because I am. The thermometer topped out at 120 today in the sun and I just want to gag simply when I walk outside.

So you know what I'm doing? Traveling up to the mountains and going tubing with my friend S. We are assuming it will be very hot and the river will be very cold and that will make everything even Steven, right? Remember the Even Stevens Movie when the family went on a special island trip that was actually secretly a reality show that was half Hunger Games and half The Bachelorette? I need to find that movie because it was shamazing.

Ren would wear this skirt.

I beg your pardon

Hat: Target
Brooch: antiqued
Dress: Target
Wedges: Target

My coworker D. said I looked awesome today. Then he dubbed this dress "watercolour camo". Whaaaaaaaaaat? Way to negate the compliment, D. But I love this dress I dug out of clearance at Target (of course), despite the chest area being miles too large and baggy. I fixed that with one safety pin at the waist and one brooch at the chest. DONE. I'm not sure if I want to sew it down permanently because it creates a pretty lovely deep but not sleazy v neck when unpinned, but that's a bit too salacious for the workplace.

I actually planned to take these pictures in front of a red-orange wall, but it was hot and very near teenagers so I skipped it in favour of a giant graffiti wall instead. Because if there's one thing I love, it's pattern clashing with more pattern! I didn't think it through. I'm like the dad in all those paper towel commercials who never puts the lid on the blender before using it. Except I've never used a blender and if I did I sure wouldn't do it with my little kid stand next to me. I don't need a little kid laughing at me in my darkest hour of blender tragedy.

In a flash

Necklace: wapa on Etsy
Cardigan: Anthropologie
Tank: Target
Jeans: Walmart
Wedges: Target

Taking a break from my irregularly scheduled flash card making for this post! Yes, flash cards on a Saturday night. I'm that girl. I have to admit there are a lot more words I don't know that I need to know than I thought I knew (still following?) and I need about 300 more index cards but this is going to happen.

And after the GRE is over I am going to shred them and I am going to make it snow in August. And then I will sweep it all up and recycle it like Adrian Monk, because that's who I am.

See you tomorrow!
