Done? Great. Because Salazar and I are starting a style collaboration called Style Imitating Art! In the same vein as Everybody Everywear and Wear*It Wednesday, we're going to have submission-based "challenges" twice a month, but the main difference is that instead of putting a requirement on what you wear, we're giving each other inspiration and seeing what happens. No limits, no restrictions, just clothes and the greatest inspiration of all: art. We're using our favourite works of art to inspire what will hopefully become some of our favourite outfits.
But this isn't just for us! You're all welcome to submit your inspired outfits too. On the day of, we'll compile any of the pictures submitted and post them. Here's how the calendar works:
Monday #1 (today): Jess introduces her painting
Monday #2: Jess posts the challenge entries
Monday #3: Salazar introduces her painting
Monday #4: Salazar posts the challenge entries
Down the road, we're definitely willing to consider adding hostesses. We also would love to hear from you if you have any art to suggest! Our emails are
Jess: animatedcardigan @ gmail.com
Salazar: 14shadesofgreyblog @ gmail.com
And really, if you have any questions, comments, ideas, or want to work out an outfit, we're here. Email us your pictures and we'll roll them all into one awesome post two Mondays a month!
As such, our very first challenge starts today! Salazar and I drew straws and I'm in charge of selecting the very first painting. Kind of a big deal! So, ladies, here's the very first Style Imitating Art inspiration:
A Bar at the Folies-Bergère by Édouard Manet
A Bar at the Folies-Bergère is quite possibly my favourite painting of all time, and it has a woman in it, so what better way to start? Use this painting however you see fit--colour, texture, style, outline, or anything else you might see. Style an outfit, and send me a picture of it by Monday, February 13th at 5pm!
SO EXCITED.
