Seashore

Necklace: J.Crew Outlet | Top: J. Crew | Skirt: Talbots | Flats: Toms

Greetings from the great white Northeast! E. and I are spending quality time with cheesesteaks, the ocean, and my uncle's cat. The above photos were taken in South Philly, and below in Cape May. Happiness is warm sand and cold water.

Two skirt split

Necklace: JCPenney | Top: Ann Taylor Factory Store | Belt: Target | Skirt: Target | Heels: Urban Outfitters

Above, what I wore to work. Below, what I wore to eat fried food. There's a slight dichotomy, but the goal is the same: not be naked. Funny how this clothing thing works, right? :)

Pin up

You guys! I noticed that pinning pictures from here wasn't possible! So I changed my flickr settings to accomodate that. Going forward (and back to the last 40 or so posts), you'll be able to pin whatever you see here on AC. Sorry about that!

Also, a few pictures of life lately. I'm the only cook left in the kitchen right now, as it were, so I've been shouldering a lot of domestic responsibilities at home, including cooking, cleaning and laundry. I've surprised myself at my competence in the kitchen; I've kind of been winging it and things have turned out pretty well, particularly broiling food for the first time and making fried chicken, from scratch, without a recipe (also for the first time). And it was delicious! I've been eating a ridiculous amount of cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches lately, and they're pretty awesome. And so easy to make!

Below: the flowers my amazing college roommate, Sarah, sent last week. Aren't they just lovely?

In public

Thin necklace: antiques shop | Ring necklace: Anthropologie | Top: JCPenney | Skirt: J.Crew Outlet | Flats: Toms

It's crepe myrtle season here in Cardiganland, and I couldn't pass on an opportunity to take some pictures with it. It'll probably happen again, if I can find more places to take pictures with them. But for now, I think I win the award for most public pictures by a self photographer this week--these pictures are right on the second busiest street in town. Yikes. But I did it, and drivers ignored me! Nothing happened. I survived. And I have cool pictures to show for it. Success!

Hit the brakes

Sweater: J.Crew Outlet | Shorts: Gap Outlet | Wedges: Target

Can you tell by the extremely wrinkled, totally lived in look that I've been wearing these shorts pretty much 24/7 this summer? I used to despise shorts (I'm fat and cellulite blahblah), but two summers into my life in Cardiganland was the hottest summer on record in SC and I finally caved and bought some $5 shorts from Walmart. And were they ever worth it. Now I basically live in shorts outside of work, and I even wear them to the store and stuff. I love these shorts in particular because they fit--is it me or is it even harder to find shorts for extreme curves than it is to find jeans?--and because look at this colour, you guys. Ballin. I'm so gonna stop traffic in the Walmart parking lot tonight.

On the road

Necklace: Target | Top: J.Crew | Skirt: JCPenney | Wedges: DSW | Toes: butter London Slapper

One of my favourite things to do is drive. I could (and have) drive for hours and hours and days and days. These days, my half hour drive to and from work is sometimes the only calm I have all day. Once in a while I take the long way home, through tiny towns with one traffic light. It's a literal relaxation tank, my car. Its light green paint, its soft seats, its smooth acceleration. My one hour in the car--with the windows down and the music loud or the windows shut with complete silence--is my time. And I love it.
