Cardiganland spent most of this past weekend bracing for impact, and expecting the worst, but I'm very lucky to say that most of Joaquin missed my part of the state. We got plenty of rain--about 7 inches overall--and one person did die in the area last week, but the situation could have been much, much worse. I have friends who live in Columbia but were in Charlotte over the weekend and now they can't get home, because every interstate between the two cities is flooded in some areas. I hate that there are parts of South Carolina that are in such dire straits right now. It's devastating. But one thing I know about this state is that for better or worse, people band together. And in this situation, I believe it will be for the better.

Mad for plaid

I have been looking for plaid pants for three falls now. It's taken THAT LONG to find a pair that suited me. I checked all over the place and liked a few pairs, but I really struggle to find pants that fit--I'm 5'10 and I have a long torso, but my legs are comparatively stubby. Usually pants are either too long, or they're baggy, or they're tight in the waist, whatever. But Old Navy! They came through! And in a big way, because these plaid pants are Philadelphia Eagles green! Fat lot of good it did, since they lost last night (boooooooo), but I did what I could to support the cause. Happy football season, y'all!

I look like I'm ready to go fire some people in that first picture. Just to clarify, I hope I am never ever in a position where I have to fire anyone. Depending on my life as a librarian, I might never will, but I can still nightmare that it could happen. Yes, I just used nightmare as a verb. I should fire myself from writing on this blog. Little Facts time!



Where I was recently spotted I recently did a work video for youtube (definitely not linking to that) that involved me pretending I was on safari. It was really weird and I had a hard time filming without laughing but we made it through! I was also on Distinct.Style.Innovation. Sweet!

So fascinating to me I recently read this article in The Atlantic about women and marriage today. I'm kind of curious about marriage (in a different way--as in I don't see marriage as an end all/be all but the institution fascinates me) and this article is amazing for that.

Random mail item of the week I received a Tiffany & Co. catalogue yesterday. It was in an envelope and I was really disappointed when something sparkly and shiny didn't fall out. Even if I don't view marriage as the most important thing ever I'm kind of sad about not getting some bling.

I am stupidly pleased with how these pictures turned out. I feel almost Kendiesque with the lens flare and whatnot, though I am still lacking an attractive husband with photographic talent and I live with my parents. OH WELL



I received some fantastic news at work today. My boss and I have been approved for a trip to New York City for Book Expo America! Animated Cardigan goes to New York in May, and I can't wait. One of my best friends from high school lives in New York, so...guest photographer? My car won't be there so I'm going to have to make do. Regardless, it'll be a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to scoping out the BEA!

To the doctor!

Well, I really wanted to avoid going to the doctor. Like really. I can beat this thing on my own! I'll be fine! I was my own cheerleader and I told myself I was BETTER THAN THIS ILLNESS, and I would be a-ok come Thursday.

Here's Thursday, and here's me with a stack of drugs high enough to open a pharmacy.

I was scheduled to work this morning, but as soon as my alarm went off I knew it was so not happening. Something was hacked up at one point so I called in, then I broke and called my doctor. I slept fitfully until lunchtime, when I swallowed some soup and pulled on some jeans and plaid.



I have to admit that I was resistant to plaid. I went to a concert in November and 90% of the audience (and all three of the people I went with!) were wearing plaid shirts. It's always screamed hipsterwear to me, hard to pair with anything but jeans, and, well, kind of goofy looking. But then Old Navy came along and made it sort of okay. I'm going to be fodder forever, but at least I'll be plaid fodder!

One thing I love about these boots--they're the same as these boots, but brown--is that they have an exposed zipper in the back, and the lining fabric is red. At first I hated it, but it actually creates a jumpoff point for the rest of the outfit. It matches my shirt!



Now I'm going to take four different kinds of medicine and hope one makes me better before I'm scheduled to work tomorrow!
